There’s nothing like sliding your feet into a tunnel of softer-than-soft fleece after a long day. Depending on how much time you spend at home, you may end up wearing your slippers just as much as any other shoe you own. With that in mind, it’s important to pick a pair that’s comfortable and will hold up to your daily jaunts around the house. I wore the Cozy Memory Foam Slippers from UltraIdeas around my apartment for a few weeks. Ahead, I’ll break down the best and worst parts of these slippers, from the fit to the material quality.
Materials: Fleece, memory foam, and rubber
It’s hard to find a spot on these slippers that doesn’t remind me of a baby rabbit: The slipper is covered in velvet-like synthetic coral fleece and lined with even more fluffy fleece. The bottom of the shoe is made of rubber, and the sole of the shoe is pliable; it’s not a hard rubber that will keep you safely planted on the ground at all times. I found that the sole of the shoe moved with my foot more than it kept it in place. The memory foam insole is a nice touch. It consists of three layers: memory foam, support foam, and anti-shock EVA. I did notice it forming to my foot as the week went on, but I actually found myself missing the first couple of wears, where the inside of the slipper would rise to meet the arch of my foot.
Design: Chunky
I really like the style, but it’s certainly not for everyone. It’s not a sleek slipper; the upper is large and round and the lip of fleece along the top of the slipper is anything but modern. But it is such a cozy look—perfect for being lazy around my apartment. The slipper comes in a number of colors including gray, navy blue, pink, and purple. I tested the light blue option. The color options can only be described as safe—they’ll match whatever pajamas or house outfits you’ve got without making too much of a statement. I really liked the open-back style of the slipper, but that’s because I prefer having a bit of room to wiggle around. However, keep in mind that this design means the slippers aren’t as warm as other options.
Fit: Comfortable
I found these slippers to be super comfortable. I really love the texture of the interior: It’s soft, but not soft enough that it will get caught on every crevice of your foot. There are four sizes to choose from: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. I tested the 7-8 (I wear a size 8 shoe) and found them to be a perfect fit. If you’re on the higher end of your foot size option and like to wear socks with your slippers, size up. My favorite part was this slipper’s flexible upper. With other slippers like the Ansley moccasin from UGG, I had trouble with how tight the shoe felt along the top of my foot. There’s a lot of give in this area on the UltraIdeas slipper, which I found extra comfy. There isn’t much—if any—arch support on this slipper. I don’t require that kind of attention when it comes to my slippers, but if you do, look elsewhere for your house shoes.
Cleaning: Do yourself a favor and keep them clean
The material that makes up these slippers is super soft…and tough to clean. The velvet will attract fuzz and other small debris, and you will be able to brush it all off pretty easily. But if you spill a cup of coffee or really drop anything with the potential to stain, you’re in for a tough clean. The rubber soles, on the other hand, can be cleaned with a quick swipe of a damp towel.
Performance: Light walking indoors
I would not take these slippers outside. As mentioned before, the rubber sole is not sturdy and won’t do much in terms of protecting or supporting your arch. Since the sole is so slight, it makes for quiet walking around the apartment. I found this to be especially nice since we live on the third floor of a walk-up building. Here’s a moment to share a fun fact about me: I am incredibly clumsy. While I don’t often fall all the way down, I am constantly catching myself as my feet slip and slide underneath me. These slippers didn’t help a whole lot with that problem. I wish the rubber sole were a bit grippier, even if it meant adding a bit of a squeak to my step. As for the memory foam, after a few months of regular wear, it has lost its bounce. But what I will say is that they’ve finally achieved that lived-in, I-can’t-wait-to-get-home-to-these-slippers level of comfort.
Price: A steal
To find a pair of slippers this soft in the $20 to $30 range is a good deal—even if they won’t last forever. I would definitely purchase these shoes again if my current pair bites the dust.
Competition: It doesn’t get much cheaper than this
Unlike the Ansley moccasins from UGG or the Tamarac by Slippers International Cody Sheepskin Slippers, this pair from UltraIdeas is not a full-coverage slipper. You won’t find your feet as warm, but if you crave wiggle room (like I do), this is something to note when looking at the competition. If you plan on wearing your slippers outside of the apartment for any amount of time, spend some time researching slippers with a sturdier sole. If you’re after slippers that will survive 20 years of life, this is not the pair for you. Instead, check out the Ansley moccasins from UGG. The $100 price tag may seem scary at first, but that will disappear as soon as you feel the high-quality materials. For the price, the UltraIdeas Cozy Memory Foam Slippers are a great starter pair. They may not be the warmest or most supportive option, but they’re comfortable and cozy and will form to your feet without costing a fortune.
