Our lab tester was surprised that the DEEBOT N8+ mopped up all of our coffee and syrup spills while only leaving a little bit of residue behind. While many features of this vacuum-mop combo involve hands-free cleaning, our tester noted that you do have to manually clean the scrub brushes after mopping. Besides its stellar mopping abilities, the N8+ expertly navigated and maneuvered through our obstacle course of couches and tables, and it was careful to take in the perimeters of the room before beginning its clean. This kind of smart technology is what keeps your baseboards and furniture safe from unnecessary robot mop bumps and run-ins. This appliance also self-empties when in vacuum mode; plus, it smart maps your space and has obstacle avoidance technology. In our lab testing, it successfully avoided a sock, but it sucked up the USB cord, so in the real world, it likely won’t avoid extra-small obstacles. We don’t consider this a huge downside since robot appliances with obstacle avoidance usually don’t detect cords. While the noise level of this robot vacuum and mop didn’t bother our lab tester, she did note that it was extremely loud when self-emptying, so you likely wouldn’t want to run it if a child was napping. Following our initial lab test, we sent the DEEBOT N8+ to a long-term home tester for further evaluation. While we didn’t test the app setup in The Lab, our tester reported that this process was very easy; she scanned a QR code, which led her to the app for downloading, and followed simple step-by-step guidance to begin mapping the layout in her home. After one month of consistent use, our home tester raved about this device’s “perfect” performance. She loved the time she saved by running both mopping and vacuuming functions simultaneously and that this combo device always recognized the surface correctly and mopped only on non-carpeted areas. The only major mopping drawback our tester shared is that she wished she could use her own cleaning solution in the water tank. ECOVACS recommends only water to prevent clogging. This iRobot Braava can use fresh-scent wet mopping pads, damp sweeping pads, or dry sweeping pads—all of which are disposable. You won’t have to worry about washing your mop pads, but you will have to purchase the refill pads separately. There are newer models in the iRobot Braava jet series that can pair with your Roomba to work together to vacuum and mop your floors. But again, for the price point, this is an excellent mop-only option. Price at time of publish: $160 In The Lab, our tester noted that the robot mop was “actually scrubbing back and forth,” as opposed to just lightly mopping the floor for a surface clean. He also appreciated that the device seemed methodical in its cleaning method and didn’t randomly mop the area. The T10+ mop cleaned up our coffee and syrup spills extremely well, leaving only a little bit of residue behind when picking up the syrup spill. The DEEBOT T10+ also features obstacle avoidance, which is the latest technology in helping you achieve a safe, hands-free clean. In our lab testing, this machine successfully avoided a sock but sucked up a USB cord, so the technology isn’t perfect, but it’s getting there. Our long-term home tester saw similar inconsistent results with navigation after using this robot vacuum and mop for one month. In the tester’s home, this device had trouble over rugs, often crumpling them, and clearing door thresholds. Our long-term home tester also shed light on this machine’s smart mapping technology through the companion mobile app. While the app was relatively simple to download and set up, the tester said it offered no guidance on the various settings, which left her guessing and tapping around for answers. Our long-term tester also indicated that setting up accurate floor mapping wasn’t easy to do or correct if the device missed certain areas. Unfortunately, this is fairly common in robot mops, so we didn’t dock too many points for that mistake. Our lab tester loved that this model spoke when it turned on, off, and paused, making it simple to use, and how quiet it was. Our long-term home tester also appreciated the quiet volume after one month of consistent use—and the user-friendly app that makes the X8 Hybrid more convenient to use. This tester said downloading and setting up the app was straightforward and highlighted how the app created a map after an initial cleaning run, allowing her to designate certain areas as restricted. Our long-term tester found this feature essential for blocking off spaces for spot cleaning, avoiding tricky layouts, or asking the X8 Hybrid to tidy a specific room or rooms, a request that’s easy to make from the app. While our home tester appreciated the intuitive app and excellent pet hair, dust, and dirt-cleaning abilities, the mopping function was slightly less impressive. The primary recommendation is to use water, and the tester reported the X8 Hybrid releases a very thin layer of liquid for mopping and did not blow her away. Once she figured out how to operate the machine, she was impressed that it mopped up our coffee and syrup spills with ease, leaving only a little bit of residue behind. Perhaps the most notable feature we noted during lab testing is this mop’s quiet operation. If you have a large home, operating a loud robot vacuum and mop for a long period of time could become tiresome, but this appliance is relatively quiet. In addition to our in-lab test, we asked a long-term home tester to report how this vacuuming and mopping combo device performed over the course of a month. Like our lab tester, the home tester noted difficulty with the initial setup. For the home tester, the main challenge was connecting the Yeedi to Wi-Fi. While the connection seemed to be successful, ultimately, she had to reset the device and download a firmware update before the app could connect to the machine and map her home. Once it did, the tester said the Yeedi became her preferred cleaning device (over a Dyson Animal V8) because of the effective mapping. Price at time of publish: $350 Shark AV2001WD AI VACMOP 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop: Our tester really liked the Shark AI VACMOP, and it did a good job cleaning up the syrup and coffee spills. However, it ran straight through our chocolate pudding and smeared it all over the floor, so we couldn’t, in good conscience, recommend this robot vacuum-mop in our top picks. One of our editors also tested this model at home and ended up docking the robot mop and hand-scrubbing her kitchen floor. Roborock S7+ Robot Vacuum and Sonic Mop: While the vacuuming feature on this Roborock worked well, the mopping feature simply smeared the syrup on our testing floor. “The features it lists sound impressive; however, I don’t feel the performance was worth the price,” said our tester. “The vacuuming function was adequate, but the mopping left enough residue behind that I would feel the need to properly mop afterward.” If you’re looking to invest in a robot mop, this is not what you want to hear. eufy by Anker RoboVac G20 Hybrid: We tested several eufy models, but the eufy by Anker RoboVac G20 Hybrid left us scratching our heads. It says it’s capable of vacuuming and mopping, but it completely avoided the testing floor area with coffee and syrup spills. Instead, it just went back and forth over the same spot. Our tester noted that the mopping reservoir is also fairly small, and the vacuuming feature wasn’t super impressive, either.
How We Tested the Robot Mops
We purchased and tested 30 robot vacuums and vacuum-mop hybrids in The Lab in Des Moines, Iowa, over two days. We unboxed and assembled each appliance and rated the ease of setup for each robot vacuum-mop hybrid model. Once setup was complete, we tested the effectiveness of its mopping features by spilling syrup and coffee on our testing floors, setting a two-minute timer, and letting the robot mop clean. After two minutes passed, we evaluated if any sticky residue was left behind. As the robot vacuum-mop was operating, we used a decibel reader to assess the noise level of each. We also took note of any special features included, such as obstacle avoidance or smart mapping, that our home testers will further dive into in their long-term, at-home testing. Then we scored each model on maneuverability as the robot mops navigated their way through our living room obstacle course of couches and coffee tables. If object avoidance was an advertised feature, we tested it by putting a USB cord, sock, and chocolate pudding on the floor, and then we took note of whether it successfully avoided those obstacles. In addition, we noted the ease of emptying each device’s dust bin and reservoir, as well as the overall value of the robot mop, based on the price, our experience, and its features.
