Material: Ideal for Those With Allergies
The Superior Microfiber All Season Down Alternative Mattress Topper is supposed to lay flat on top of a mattress, covering its entire surface area. We put ours on the bottom layer of our bedding, underneath our mattress protector. Alternatively, it can go right beneath the fitted sheet—it’s up to the user’s preference. The shell of the Superior mattress topper is made of 100 percent microfiber. This exterior shell is smooth, silky soft, and noiseless. The soft microfiber shell is supposed to be breathable and cooling, making it suitable for all seasons. After sleeping on it over the course of several weeks, we found that the topper was cooling when we had the air conditioning on, but when off, it didn’t regulate temperature very well and did retain heat. It definitely wasn’t as comfortable in higher temperatures. As for the inside, the Superior topper is filled with a polyester-down alternative.
Texture: Luxuriously Soft
The 100 percent microfiber exterior is extremely soft to the touch, and the filling has a very similar feel to down. After first placing it on our bed, we found that it was comparable to a luxurious hotel bed. It has a two-inch gusset containing 157 ounces of fill, making this mattress topper both thick and plush. We felt like we were lying on top of a bunch of pillows, yet we still agreed that this topper offered some support. My husband had been complaining about the firmness of our current mattress, but after sleeping on it with the Superior mattress topper for just a few days, he remarked that it really helped relieve his back pain. The microfiber shell is also strong and durable. It’s resistant to stains, fading, and wrinkles due to the ultra-thin fibers. It also has a baffle-box construction, meaning the shell is sewn in stitched squares, or pockets. This prevents the plush fill from shifting or compressing. We found this to be true before washing, and we enjoyed the evenness of the fill throughout the entire surface area of the topper. However, after we washed it, the experience wasn’t quite the same. The filling bunched in some of the squares, resulting in an uneven surface in some areas. This may be due to the fact that each square is about 14 inches, allowing a lot of room for the fill to move around. We attempted to fluff it up again to get it to where it was when we first opened it, but it wasn’t quite the same. Sleeping on it was still comfortable and soft, but there were areas where it felt like there were empty spaces due to the shifting of the fill.
Washing: Safe to Wash, but Requires a Large Machine
This mattress topper is machine washable. The tag suggests washing in cold and tumble-drying on low heat. It also recommends occasionally removing it from the dryer to fluff. As soon as the cycle has finished, the tag suggests removing it from the dryer immediately to reduce wrinkling. One of the issues we ran into with this topper was that ours (the queen size) just barely fit in our washing machine. The two-inch thickness of the topper didn’t make it any easier to squeeze it in. We recommend going to a laundromat with extra-large machines to wash and dry your mattress topper to avoid damaging it and/or the machine. As mentioned earlier, after we washed our topper according to the recommended instructions, we found that the fill had shifted within the boxes. Some of the filling was bunched up and shifted towards the edge of the squares, while others weren’t that affected. We let our mattress topper air-dry, and that seemed to work well instead of having to fluff it throughout the dry cycle. We attempted to move the filling around by hand to make it more even within each square, which was a bit tedious.
Fit: Perfect for Our Mattress
The Superior Microfiber All Season Down Alternative Mattress Topper comes in four sizes: twin, full, queen, and king. We have the queen, which measures 60 x 80 inches with a two-inch gusset. It fit our queen-sized mattress and completely covered its entire surface area. As for color selection, this mattress topper comes solely in white, which is fine as it will likely go on the bottom layer of the bedding anyhow.

This mattress topper is also OEKO-TEX-certified, which means it’s free of harmful chemicals and synthetics. We didn’t notice any chemically smells when we first opened this topper from the package, which is sometimes the case with bedding. Another nice feature is the reusable case that doubles as a storage container. The case is made of a durable fabric and has two handles on top, making it easy to carry around. It’s also big enough to fit the refolded topper back inside. We have used the case several times already as a storage container when we weren’t using the topper, and it kept the item clean and out of the way.
Price: A Steal
This mattress topper ranges from around $40 and goes up, depending on the size. For the soft, luxurious feel, we found it to be a really great deal. It’s also an inexpensive solution for an old, uncomfortable mattress. Instead of completely replacing your mattress, this topper could possibly serve as an alternative remedy.

The Sleep Innovations Gel Memory Foam 4-Inch Dual Layer Mattress Topper is another top-competing mattress topper on the market that we tested. It retails from around $113 to $163, depending on the selected size. This mattress topper has two layers to it—the gel memory foam and the mattress cover. Each layer is about two inches thick, for about four inches overall. Meanwhile, the Superior Microfiber All Season Down Alternative Mattress Topper is a single two-inch layer with polyester down alternative filling, ideal for those with allergies. It’s less expensive than the Sleep Innovations topper, retailing from about $40. We found the main difference between the toppers to be in the overall softness. While both are comfortable, the Superior topper feels much more luxurious and soft. For someone with back problems, the Sleep Innovations option may be a better investment, as it adds a good amount of support. But for someone just looking for added padding to their mattress, the Superior may be the better option. Offering both comfort and support, the Superior Microfiber All Season Down Alternative Mattress Topper is certainly worth trying out. It is a cheap solution for someone looking to revive their old mattress or soften up a mattress that’s too firm.
