When it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, a quality pillow is just as important as an excellent mattress or luxe bedding. After all, if your head, neck, and spine aren’t properly aligned while you slumber, you’ll wake up feeling achy, sore, and tired—no matter how much money you’ve spent on sheets. Memory foam pillows are meant to conform to the sleeper, offering support with either slab or shredded foam filling. The Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury Bamboo Shredded Memory Foam Pillow contains the latter, which is customizable and therefore ideal for any type of sleeper—back, side, or stomach. But personalized sleep comes at a price: Memory foam pillows are often more expensive than down or down-alternative options, and the Snuggle-Pedic is at the higher end of the spectrum. So is it worth the price tag? We put it to the test.
Material and Weave: Luxe, thick, and smooth
Like many memory foam pillows, the Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury Bamboo Shredded Memory Foam Pillow arrives in a vacuum-sealed roll, without a box. But once unpackaged, the pillow inflates (put it in the dryer for 20 minutes to speed up the process). The outer shell, made from bamboo, polyester, and lycra, is thick and well made, with a zipper closure that opens to reveal another pillow case containing all of the dense filling. The pillow has a slight odor upon unwrapping, but this went away after laundering the outer shell. Because the outer shell is so soft, you can use the pillow without a pillowcase, although if you do this, you’ll need to launder the outer shell more frequently.
Fill: Adjustable but messy
The Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury Bamboo Shredded Memory Foam Pillow is filled with CertiPUR-US®- and GREENGUARD-certified foam. (In other words, it’s eco-friendly and free of toxic chemicals.) The shredded fill can be removed or adjusted to achieve your desired loft level, but because it’s so crumbly, this can be quite messy. Be sure to do so over a trash can or bag to avoid getting it all over your floor.
Texture: Soft yet durable
The Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury Bamboo Shredded Memory Foam Pillow is designed not to flatten. Though it compresses when you lay down, it pops right back into place the moment you get up. The pillow itself feels almost like jumping into a foam pit: soft, yet with enough spring to support your weight. Constructed with the brand’s Kool-Flow technology, this cushion boasts a breathable, micro-vented cover meant to keep sleepers from overheating. This is ideal if you have a tendency to sweat while slumbering or wake often in the night because you are too warm. Washing: Outer shell is easy to launder
The outer shell of the Snuggle-Pedic Bamboo Combination Shredded Style Memory Foam Pillow is machine washable in cold water on the delicate cycle. When tumble dried on low, it emerged completely intact and easily slipped back onto the pillow without any noticeable shrinkage. The shell felt just as soft as it did before washing, and there weren’t any loose threads or difficulties with the zippered closure. Washing the entire pillow (fill included) is more of a hassle, requiring extra water to be squeezed out by hand and potentially several dryer cycles.
Helpful Features: Excellent warranty and customization policy
If, after adjusting the foam, customers still aren’t satisfied, Snuggle-Pedic offers customization free of charge. The company also has a 120-night, no-hassle return policy (that’s four months!), as well as a 20-year warranty for fill. If your pillow flattens or loses support at any point in two decades, they’ll replace the fill. (The inner and outer shell are not covered under this warranty.)
Price: More expensive than the competitor
The Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury Bamboo Shredded Memory Foam Pillow comes in standard-, queen-, and king-sized versions. While the standard size is the same price as its closest competitor, the queen size costs $5 more and the king size $10 more than their counterparts. The pillows are nearly identical in look and feel. The only difference is the warranty that Snuggle-Pedic offers. Take a look at our reviews of the best places to buy pillows.
The Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury Bamboo Shredded Memory Foam Pillow vs. Xtreme Comforts Adjustable Thickness Memory Foam Bamboo Pillow
These pillows look and feel so similar, they’re almost indistinguishable. The only physical difference is the color of the fill (white for Snuggle-Pedic, blue for Xtreme Comforts) yet the Snuggle-Pedic is more costly for the queen- and king-sized models. The Snuggle-Pedic comes with a 20-year warranty and allows customers to return within 120 days if they aren’t satisfied. Xtreme Comforts offers a 30-day return policy and a 2-year extended warranty. Want to take a look at some other options? See our guide to the best pillows. Though the Snuggle-Pedic is a high-quality pillow that keeps you cool and comfy, it’s virtually indistinguishable from the Xtreme Comforts memory foam pillow; we’d go with the latter’s queen- and king-sized pillows, which are cheaper. However, if having a decades-long warranty and an extended trial period is important to you, spend the extra $5-10 for the Snuggle-Pedic.
