Maybe it’s because I live in the great Pacific Northwest, where a love of mother nature and all her creatures reigns supreme, but my home seems to be under constant assault from critters of all kinds. So, when moths began appearing on the top floor of my house, I wasn’t surprised, but let’s just say I wasn’t happy. However, the situation did present the perfect opportunity to try out Household Essentials CedarFresh Clothes Protector (model number 35704-1). The value pack of storage accessories harnesses the power of cedar to repel moths, much like cedar-lined closets. Read on to find out if this product kept my clothes moth hole-free.
Design: Clever shapes make for easy placement
Moths hate the smell of cedar, which makes blocks and sachets of cedar such an effective way of keeping these pests away from your clothing. I love that this set includes 71 pieces in several varieties—six hang-ups, 20 rings, 40 cubes, and five sachets—so that you have the flexibility to use the shape that best fits the spot you aim to protect. The hanging blocks are ideal for closets, and the wooden rings can go over the top of a hanger, too. The other pieces can be placed anywhere; they are small, so it’s simple to find a discreet spot.
Performance: Pleasant and effective
After spotting moths on the top floor and stairway, I wanted to make sure I kept them out of my family’s bedroom closets. So, I put these blocks and sachets in my family’s closets and drawers, as well as in the top floor playroom where I first saw the winged intruders and the adjacent rooms. They seem to have done the trick. I haven’t had any signs of moths in two months of testing, and I’m very happy with the light cedar smell my closet and drawers have taken on. My daughter also loved the smell so much that she grabbed some of the cubes and sachets and put them in with her clothes. When you notice the cedar scent is waning, you can sand them to release more cedar oil and odor (and more moth protection), or simply replace them. An application of cedar spray can also refresh the cedar pieces without sanding.
Safety: All-natural
These pieces are made from 100 percent eastern red cedar. I love that this product provides an all-natural, chemical-free, child-safe solution to moth infestations. However, it’s worth noting that this product will not kill moths—only repel them.
Price: A bargain
The Household Essentials CedarFresh Clothes Protector value pack retails for around $13. For this low price, I got a whopping 71 pieces, which gave me enough cedar to place them everywhere I needed. There are lots of other moth-repellent cedar products on the market, but this set distinguishes itself by offering both a low price and a wide range of items.
Household Essentials CedarFresh Clothes Protector vs. Ollieroo Moth-Repellent Cedar Hang-Ups and Sachets
Both of these products are made with natural cedar and are effective at repelling moths. The difference is that the Ollieroo product includes 14 items (12 hanging blocks and two sachets) for around $20, whereas the Household Essentials brand offers 71 items for just $13. This disparity and the sheer volume of items gives the Household Essentials value pack the edge. However, if you are after more hanging cedar blocks, then the Ollieroo set is a good option. The Household Essentials CedarFresh Clothes Protector set is an excellent value for a huge variety of moth-repellent cedar pieces. I found the pack easy to use and very effective.
