Megan Carty is here to save the day. As an abstract painter whose work has been featured everywhere from Anthropologie to Homegoods, she gave us the scoop on where she turns when she needs high-quality prints.
What item made your work life easier this week/month/lately?
MC: I LOVE using a print service called I Print From Home.
Where/how do you use this item most?
MC: I use I Print From Home whenever someone orders a print from my website. I upload and order pieces several times per week. I always select the Somerset Velvet Fine Art Paper, which is super-thick, soft, and luxurious. My clients source their own frames, utilize frames they already own, or find ready-made from local craft stores if budget is a concern.
How did you discover this item?
MC: I heard about them about 5 years ago in a Facebook group for professional artists I belong to. I’ve been working with them ever since.
Will you use this item in the future?
MC: Yes! I will definitely continue to use them—I love supporting small businesses.
How has this item made your job easier?
MC: Being able to delegate my printing needs to them allows me to focus on what I do best: painting original works. I don’t have to worry about maintaining my own inkjet printer or ink stock, nor do I spend my time troubleshooting tech issues. I get professional-grade fine art prints so quickly, and they drop ship to my clients directly. I simply upload my file from home and place the order; all within minutes.
How might someone not in your line of work benefit from this item?
MC: I have lots of friends who look to have beautiful fine prints made of their own personal family and vacation photographs and I always send them to I Print From Home to order.
What, if anything, would you change about this item?
MC: As of now, they don’t do gallery-wrapped stretched canvas as an easy option. They focus on the quality print itself. This is fine by me as I already use a different vendor for online framing, called Framebridge.
Are there any care/use tips someone considering this item should know about?
MC: Make sure your high-resolution photo is already at the size you want it to be (in inches) ahead of time. I suggest using a photo editor to make sure your exposure isn’t too dark and that your shadows are lightened a bit. I also suggest increasing the “saturation” levels, as the image’s color can tend to look faded in print compared to what you might see on your monitor. It takes up to 3 business days for your print to be made and shipped out, but you can choose from different shipping options/speeds.
