We pulled together some of the most popular and, with the help of a cleaning expert, took a look at how they’re used, why they’re so beloved, and, in some cases, if they’re actually worth the hype. “Stardrops’ The Pink Stuff uses a mix of soap, sodium bicarbonate, and quartz amongst other ingredients, so it does work well at cleaning and stain removal without relying heavily on harsh chemicals,” Harris explains. “There are different products including a paste, foaming spray, and disinfectant, so it’s best to use the right type of product for the job you’re doing." Cleaning expert Matthew Harris of PriceYourJob agrees that this is a viral staple for a reason. “The Bar Keepers Friend Powder Cleanser does work well to remove stubborn stains without too much scrubbing. It can be made into a paste so it’s handy for removing tea stains from cups and spoons, and cleaning glass oven doors without leaving scratches,” he says—before sharing a word of warning. “TikTok users tend to use it to clean everything from shower screens to hobs,” Harris notes. “But it’s advisable to check manufacturer advice or do a patch test first. And for areas that have a build-up of grease or need disinfecting, a more targeted cleaning product could work better.” As user @jessicaann494 shows in this video, their top product—the Scrub Daddy FlexTexture Scrubber—is a particular fave for a reason. Ten in fact, according to her video! However, Harris had a quick note about using this product. “The Scotch-Brite dish wand saves you the effort of squirting dish soap onto a sponge, but doesn’t have any additional cleaning power to conventional sponges,” he points out. But as with almost any fabric or carpet cleaner, you might want to do a patch test first. Depending on the outcome, as Harris points out, there could be better alternatives. “Folex Instant Carpet Spot Remover is free from odor and solvents and comes in a handy spray bottle, so it’s no wonder it’s gone viral on TikTok,” Harris says. “But, you may find a baking soda solution or oxygen-based stain remover works just as well on fresh stains.”
